Prevention of premature births – additional security for you
Pregnant women between the 16th to 20th week of pregnancy (by the 24th at the latest) have the advantage of an additional free health screening exam. You can have your gynaecologist perform the examination for vaginal infections. Often you will not even notice these infections yourself; however they are the cause of a large number of premature births.
Study: 50% less premature births
In a study into the new screening exam, scientists from Vienna university hospital established that 20 per cent of a total of 4,000 pregnant women who were examined had a vaginal infection. These women were given appropriate treatment. The rate of premature births in the study was 50 per cent below average.

Complete examination pack from BIG
BIG will send pregnant policyholders a complete examination pack, which they can take with them when they visit the gynaecologist who is treating them. The doctor will perform a vaginal smear test that will be analysed in a laboratory. If an infection is found, the patient will continue to be treated. Scientific monitoring will accompany the screening programme in order to assess whether the rate of premature births is also reduced as significantly when treating policyholders as it was in the study group. For this reason, BIG is requesting consent from its policyholders so that the data can be rendered anonymous and then analysed.
