simply switch to BIG
Your health insurance fund is obligated to inform you in good time if they want to charge an additional premium. You should receive written notification from your health insurance fund at least one month before the additional premium becomes due for the first time.
Do you prefer not to pay an additional premium?
If you want to avoid paying the additional premium, just give notice of cancellation to your health insurance fund at the latest one day before the additional premium first becomes due. Refer specifically to your special right to cancellation in the case of an additional premium.
Incidentally:
with BIG we guarantee you won’t be paying an additional premium in 2011 either!
The statutory notice period of two months also remains in place with the special right to cancellation
Your statutory notice period then still amounts to two months to the end of the month. However you avoid paying the additional premium. And where those policyholders, who have only changed health insurance fund recently, are concerned, the minimum membership period of 18 months that otherwise applies is not applicable.
An example
- additional premium at the previous health insurance fund due for the first time on 15.4.
- special cancellation by 14.4. at the latest
- switch to new health insurance fund on 1.7.
Important!
In your notice of cancellation refer specifically to your special right to cancellation in the case of an additional premium. Then you won’t need to pay the additional premium for the remaining time!

Special conditions with an optional insurance policy
Those who had taken out an optional insurance policy with their previous health insurance fund (e.g. for a deductible or reimbursement of premiums) are bound to the health insurance fund for at least three years. In this case you’ll be unable to give notice even if an additional premium is going to be charged.
