The idea behind BIG
The first direct health insurance fund in Germany emerged from the Federal Guild of Hearing Aid Acousticians in 1996. From the BIG headquarters in Dortmund, a team of 500 employees now provide 390.000 members throughout Germany with a professional and flexible service – a direct, 24-hour service.
With its registered office in Berlin, BIG also acts as a national association – draws up agreements with service providers and also uses its presence in the capital city to political advantage in the interests of its members.
Ideas and Visions
The big idea behind BIG is quickly outlined: an entirely online orientation and new service quality. We do without expensive local branches, using modern communication channels instead. Low administration costs, a very good price-performance ratio and excellent service are the impressive result.
Strategy and Goals
BIG sees itself as a health logistician, which means innovative services for the individual and modern, viable concepts for the system as a whole. By introducing commercial models and innovative sales concepts, the BIG direct health insurance fund is set to provide optimum care for its members now and in the future, too.
Initiative and Efficiency
Flat hierarchies and a modern staffing concept make BIG a flexible operation that enables fast, unbureaucratic decision-making. What’s more, the fund’s transparent structure encourages individual members of staff to think and act independently and to take initiative. As a result, each individual member of the BIG team has a sense of responsibility for the success of the enterprise as a whole.
